Director of Library Services
The University of West London is seeking a Director of Library Services. This senior management role reports to the Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor & Chief Information Officer and is responsible for library managers and staff. The main purpose of the job is to provide leadership, management, and strategic direction for library services aligning with the University's strategic objectives.
Key responsibilities include implementing and developing the Library Services Strategy, providing vision and leadership for library services, ensuring a hybrid collection development, working closely with IT Services, supporting academic liaison, leading the Library's contribution to UWL’s enterprise activities, initiating and participating in change management and development, leading and sponsoring projects, and monitoring and evaluating Library Services.
The candidate should have a degree or equivalent, professional qualification in library and information studies, and membership of a relevant professional body. Essential experience includes senior-level work in academic libraries, change management, team management, budget management, and an understanding of academic library services and higher education sector issues.
The role requires excellent communication, project management, leadership, and interpersonal skills, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office products and IT competencies. A customer-focused approach, commitment to continuous improvement, and ability to respect confidentiality are also necessary. Occasional travel and flexibility in working hours may be required. The role does not require a DBS check.
